Don’t get me wrong. I trust my mother and I’ve found myself flipping through the channels and pausing on a dating show or two in my time. Who hasn’t seen at least one episode of “elimiDATE,” “Blind Date,” “Cheaters,” or “Dismissed”?
But would I want my mother trying out guys for me like they were cars on a lot? I don’t think so.
MTV’s “Date My Mom” will begin its second season at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6. I caught a rerun the other day, and yes, I stopped to watch. I’m not sure if what I saw appalled me, disgusted me, or just made me laugh. Whatever it was, it wasn’t pretty.
The premise of the show is that three moms go on a date with the same guy. After discovering as much as he can about their daughters through some motherly bonding time, the guy picks one daughter to take out.
But these mothers don’t just chat and have coffee. They dress their best, go out on minidates, and try to wangle info out of the guy while he’s trying to do the same.
After the three dates, everyone meets up on the beach, and the guy makes his choice.
The best part doesn’t come from the show, but on MTV’s Web site that asks the question: “Will he pick a hottie or will he be hurtin’?”
Any guy who goes on this show must be “hurtin'” to begin with as far as I’m concerned. And any mother out prowling for guys for her daughter has some issues, too, in my book.
My mom and I are best friends – we talk, shop and complain together – but dating men for me? Never. It’s just creepy.
If you’re looking for something new, skip this one. There’s plenty of new seasons worth watching headed our way.
CBS will have season nine of “The Amazing Race 9” coming up on Feb. 28, and if you can wait a month, UPN’s “America’s Next Top Model” premieres March 8.
And my favorite, the fifth season of Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice,” is on Feb. 27. NBC has moved it out of Thursday’s lineup, but the show is on in its usual 9 p.m. time slot.
Now that Martha’s out of the way, let’s hope that The Donald’s around for at least a few more seasons.
