The people of Maine owe great appreciation to Sens. Collins and Snowe for serving with the highest degree of diligence and integrity. Their support of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court was the result of a comprehensive analytical decision-making process. Their popularity among constituents is a testament to the consistency in their practice of objectiveness.

As our nation’s 110th Supreme Court Justice, Samuel Alito brings to the table more prior judicial experience than any Supreme Court nominee in more than 70 years. He received the highest rating possible from the American Bar Association and has displayed the utmost brilliance and fair-mindedness during his distinguished career.

In light of these attributes and accolades, however, our senators carefully accessed the integrity, credibility and qualifications of Justice Alito. I am confident that he will bring a respect for the rule of law as well as the same unbiased critical thinking to the U.S. Supreme Court that our senators bring to our state.

Thank you to Sens. Collins and Snowe for voting to confirm Alito based on their critical analysis of the nominee, not a foregone conclusion as to his potential case rulings.
