Rollins FT lifts Husson Eagles by Mount Ida

NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Jenny Rollins converted one of two free throws with three seconds remaining Sunday to lift Husson College of Bangor to a 51-50 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball victory over Mount Ida and help the Eagles complete a weekend sweep.

Husson beat Lasell College 55-52 on Saturday.

In Sunday’s game, Jodie Merchant hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, then Rollins was fouled after Mount Ida turned the ball over on a player-control foul.

Annie McIntosh registered a triple-double for Husson of Bangor with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Stephanie Noyes scored 13 points, while Merchant finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Danielle Ring led Mount Ida with 13 points and 17 rebounds.

MMA wins two weekend games

Maine Maritime Academy of Castine earned two weekend victories in North Atlantic Conference play, beating Lasell 69-54 Saturday and downing Mount Ida 61-52 in Sunday’s game.

In Sunday’s game, Shelley Gott scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday to lead the Mariners.

Julia Knights chipped in with 13 points and six assists for the winners and Alyssa Burns contributed 11 points.

Courtney Casserly paced Lasell with 23 points.

On Saturday, Knights paced MMA with 25 points and Gott scored 21.

Kristin Santos led the Lasell with 18 points.

UM-Farmington wins two

At Springfield, Mass., Melissa Sawyer scored 11 points Sunday to help the University of Maine-Farmington beat Bay Path College for its 10th straight win.

On Sunday, Brandi Rideout and Kari Simpson scored nine points each for the Beavers and Meagan Cyr had eight points.

UM-Machias drops two games

The University of Maine-Machias suffered two weekend losses at home, an 84-65 decision to Lyndon State (Vt.) on Saturday and a 69-59 defeat to the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) on Sunday.

On Saturday, Nicole Arel scored 23 points to carry Lyndon State to victory.

Angela Qualey poured in 32 points to lead UMM and Alyssa Larochelle added 14.

On Sunday, Irene Tompkins had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the College of Saint Joseph to victory.

Larochelle provided 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers and Qualey had 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
