Lavertu leads Howlers past Minutemen

HOWLAND – The Penobscot Valley Howlers used a 17-7 fourth-quarter scoring edge to knock off the Stearns Minutemen 50-42 in schoolgirl basketball action Wednesday night.

Kelsy Lavertu paced the Howlers with 15 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Jenn Plourde chipped in with nine points and Amanda Hallett had eight.

Deanna Michaud led Stearns of Millinocket with 12 points and Amy Collinsworth put in 11.

At Fort Kent, Kristin Violette and Meagan Charette combined for 25 points and 45 rebounds to lead the Fort Kent Warriors to the upset of previously unbeaten Presque Isle.

For the 11-7 Warriors, Marissa Albert scored 20 points after hitting five of five free throws in the fourth quarter. She also had eight boards. Violette had 13 points and 22 rebounds. Emily Pelletier hit all three of her 3-pointers in the second quarter to give Fort Kent a halftime lead.

Katie Delong had 17 points and Moriah Morris added 10 for the Wildcats.

At Sukee Arena, Winslow, senior goalie Josh Seeley racked up 38 saves on 39 shots to pace the Bangor Rams to their sixth straight win.

Dylan George netted two goals with an assist while Andrew Marin, in his first game back after a knee injury, chipped in with a goal with an assist. Ben Silver and Joel Whitney each added a goal for the 9-6 Rams. Ben Estabrook, Matt Boehmer, Joe Gagne and Dan Shufelt each contributed an assist.

Matt Delgiudice scored for Messalonskee off an assist from Ted Fabin. Zach Parent made 21 saves on 26 shots for the 8-7 Eagles of Oakland.

Brewer 8, John Bapst 1

At T.J. Ryan Center in Brewer, Zach Wilson tallied four goals and assisted on two others to power the Witches to victory.

Marc Relford notched a goal and an assist for 14-3 Brewer, while Matt Helfen, Prentiss Swett and Ryan Nadeau scored a goal apiece. Ben Caldwell, Reid McLaughlin and Killian Kilroy posted one assist each while Christine Thoms made 18 saves on 19 shots.

Josh Hunnefeld scored off an assist from Chase Huckestein for 5-10 John Bapst of Bangor. Nate Kuneman made 25 saves on 33 shots.
