VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Former UMaine standout Prestin Ryan has been called up to join the Vancouver Canucks as a replacement for defenseman Steve McCarthy, who sustained a charley horse in Monday’s game.
Ryan was with the team’s AHL affliate in Manitoba.
Canucks right wing Anson Carter also has a bruised foot and is day to day.
Carter, the Canucks’ second-leading goal scorer with 21, was hit on the foot by teammate Mattias Ohlund’s slap shot during a 7-4 win over Columbus on Monday. Carter, who has 38 points, finished the game but was limping Tuesday and couldn’t practice.
He sat out Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Right wing Richard Park returns after missing 13 games with a knee injury and will take Carter’s spot in the lineup.
