BANGOR – Peter Christensen of Troop 8 recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

For his Eagle Scout project, Christensen designed and built four handicapped-accessible picnic tables for My Friend’s Place, an adult day care program which meets at the Methodist church. The program is for those with memory loss or social isolation.

The new picnic area which Christensen created is designed to accommodate people using wheelchairs and those with other mobility issues. It allows program participants to enjoy many outdoor activities.

Christensen’s family has a long history of Scouting. His grandfather, Nathan Doten, was a District Scout executive and Eagle Scout and was involved in Scouting for more than 70 years. Peter’s brother, Hans, received Eagle Scout status in 1995 when he was a member of Troop 48 in Hampden.

Christensen has been a member of Dirigo Search and Rescue and is a member of the Glenburn Volunteer Fire Department. He is active in his church, where he serves as the sound technician and president of a youth group.

He said that Scouting is a major influence in his desire to serve his community and his love of the outdoors. He plans to continue in Scouting, assisting new scouts with rank and badge requirements in Troop 8.

An award ceremony for Christensen was held at the First United Methodist Church in Bangor and was attended by family, friends and fellow Scouts. He is the son of Tom and Deb Christensen of Bangor.
