Ed Zimmerman, caretaker of Orneville’s transfer station, will rely on his personal vehicle to keep him warm while on the job during the remaining winter months. To help cover his gasoline costs, Piscataquis County commissioners on Tuesday agreed to give Zimmerman a stipend. The amount to be paid Zimmerman will be determined by interim County Manager Owen Pratt. In past months, Zimmerman had the use of a small building in which to get warm, but someone has repeatedly vandalized the building and stolen equipment stored inside. In recent weeks, vandals have even trashed the outhouse. (Diana Bowley, BDN)
