Artesani leads Orono past Sumner in regular-season finale

ORONO – Emily Artesani drained four 3-pointers, including one at the end of the third quarter to make it a one-point games, to score 15 points as the Orono girls basketball team ended its regular season with a crucial 51-49 victory over Sumner Saturday morning.

Lindsay Colbath scored 12 of her 13 points in the first quarter and chipped in with four steals for the Red Riots. Sierra Starno finished with 11 points, six of which came in the fourth quarter. She also led the Riots with 7-for-7 free-throw shooting. Emily Sypher had a team-high 11 rebounds. Lauren Young scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter.

Amanda Chandler paced Sumner of East Sullivan with 13 points. Kylie Bragdon and Katrina Beal each added 12 points and Chelsey Norton contributed 10.

Hockey

Winslow 5, Presque Isle 3

At Presque Isle, the Winslow Black Raiders held Presque Isle scoreless in the third period and scored three goals of their own to come back for the win.

Zach Cioppa scored the eventual game winner for the Black Raiders, and Nate Pelletier added a goal and an assist. Mike Rancourt and Clint Wiloughby chipped in with a goal apiece.

Brock LeClair added an empty-net goal and Kevin McCabe notched two assists. Hayden Fuller made 21 saves on 24 shots for the winners.

Greg Cyr, Brandon Daigle and Sean Flanagin each scored a goal, and Brendon Esquibel made 27 saves on 32 shots for the Wildcats.

Houlton-Hodgdon 5, Orono 3

At Houlton, Ian Pasquarelli scored three goals to lead Houlton-Hodgdon to victory.

Morgan Hall netted a goal with an assist while Chris Howland chipped in with a goal. Nic Joslyn made 25 saves on 28 shots for the 14-4 Black Hawks.

Tony Raymond posted two goals for Orono while Nathan Curtis added a goal. Sean Babin had two assists. Keith Hedrick had 18 saves on 23 shots for the 12-5 Red Riots.

John Bapst 5, Old Town 0

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Brian Leighton scored a goal and had two assists to lead John Bapst by Old Town.

Alex Yates netted a goal and had an assist while Matt Swift, Tyler Smith and Connor Schofield each chipped in with a goal. Josh Hunnefeld contributed two assists while Andrew Casey and Nick Farley each had an assist.

Nate Kuneman stopped all six shots for the 7-9 Crusaders. Jason Trask made 40 saves on 45 shots for 2-14 Old Town.
