Schrader helps UM end 9-game road losing skein

ALBANY, N.Y. – Abby Schrader scored 19 points and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the University of Maine women’s basketball team to a 61-52 victory over Albany Sunday afternoon at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

It was the first conference win on the road for the Black Bears and snapped a nine-game road losing streak. Maine improved to 7-14 overall and 3-7 in America East play.

Albany falls to 5-17 (1-10).

Schrader’s double-double was her America East-leading ninth of the season. She also had three assists and two blocks.

The Black Bears led 35-29 at halftime but the Great Danes rallied for a 4-point lead with 7 minutes, 35 seconds left in the game.

Maine responded, scoring the game’s next 11 points to pull away for a 57-50 lead. Colleen Kilmurray sparked the run with two free throws, followed by Bracey Barker’s jumper in the lane to tie the game at 50-50. Schrader made two free throws before Margaret Elderton scored five straight points, including three free throws.

Albany went scoreless during the Bears’ spurt.

The Black Bears went 22-for-27 at the free-throw line, powered by Barker’s 7-for-7 effort. She finished with 13 points, as did Elderton. Albany went 6-for-9 from the line.

Maine had a 43-29 rebounding advantage.

Sherri Mikus led Albany with 18 points and four assists.
