Scoring balance helps UMaine-Fort Kent roll Husson men split weekend

FORT KENT – Edmundus Akstinas poured in 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the UMaine-Fort Kent defeated the College of St. Joseph 92-79 in men’s basketball action Sunday.

Darius Parker scored 17 points and Hamill Bassue added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Rytis Kriunas chopped in with 11 points.

Rich Ortega led the College of St. Joseph with 27 points.

Maine Maritime earns sweep

At Castine, Alyssa Burns scored a combined 42 points to go with seven steals as the Mariners earned a 92-31 win over Wheelock Saturday and a 79-54 win over Mt. Ida Sunday.

On Saturday, MMA’s Michelle Gott contributed 19 points while Ashley Hayden added 15 points.

Samantha Cummings led the Wildcats with 16 points.

On Sunday, Gott chipped in with 18 points and five steals, and Julia Knights tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Mariners. Caitlin Grant notched six assists and five steals.

Kristen Santos tossed in 18 points for Mt. Ida.

Husson picks up sweep

At Bangor, Carmen Ballard poured in 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Eagles earned an 81-61 win over Mt. Ida Saturday. Husson beat Wheelock 82-36 Sunday for the weekend sweep.

In Saturday’s game, Chelsea Dow added 14 points while Annie McIntosh and Jodie Merchant each had 10 points for the winners.
