NEWRY – A 28-year-old New Hampshire woman who was hurt in a snowboarding accident over the weekend has died as a result of her injuries, hospital officials said.

Shannon Kiernan was hurt while snowboarding at Sunday River ski resort Saturday morning and died the next day at Central Maine Medical Center, according to a hospital nursing supervisor. Kiernan fell on an advanced ski trail known as Obsession and was taken to the Lewiston hospital by helicopter, said Sunday River spokesman Alex Kaufman. Kiernan, who was wearing a helmet, apparently landed on her head, officials said.

Kiernan was a teacher at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, N.H.
