Orono man arrested for possession of cocaine

An Orono man was arrested for possession of cocaine early Wednesday morning after fighting with a friend over a cheeseburger.

Two police officers were dispatched to McDonald’s on Broadway in Bangor at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a reported fight in the parking lot.

Officers found two men – Aaron Rittal, 28, of Orono and a 31-year-old Bangor man, reportedly friends – sitting in Rittal’s car.

When asked to step out of the car, both of the men complied and the officers noticed that Rittal was bleeding from the nose and mouth. He was also visibly intoxicated, according to reports.

Neither man wanted to press charges for the fight at the time.

Police ran field sobriety tests on Rittal which he failed, according to reports.

Due to the blood in Rittal’s mouth from the fight, he was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a blood test in place of a breath test for alcohol levels. Upon arrival he refused a blood test.

When police searched Rittal’s car they found a Key Bank moneybag with numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia and an empty plastic bag.

Rittal was transported to Penobscot County Jail and initially charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

After tests were run on the empty baggie, he was also charged with unlawful possession of schedule W drugs.

A Hermon woman tried to kick the windows out of a police cruiser after being arrested on Tuesday.

Erika Jakobson, 18, of Hermon was arrested at Wal Mart in Bangor at 7:25 p.m. after she refused to stop using loud profanities outside the loss prevention office where her boyfriend was being held on suspicion of shoplifting.

When police arrived, Jakobson was waiting outside the loss prevention office to get her keys so she could leave.

She was yelling and using profanities to describe the loss prevention staff, according to reports. Officer Jason McAmbley warned her that she would be arrested if she did not stop. She did not and then resisted when he tried to put her in handcuffs.

Officer McAmbley placed her in his cruiser and went back inside the store but heard a message over the paging system that Jakobson was trying to kick out the windows in the cruiser.

Jakobson was successful in kicking the rear passenger-side window off its track but was put in leg restraints to prevent her from doing any more damage.

Jakobson was transported to Penobscot County Jail and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and failure to submit to arrest.
