Swim team makes enormous splash at finish line

BANGOR – The Bangor Y Barracuda swim team completed the dual meet portion of its season with a winning record. The invitational portion of the season brought competition from several area teams.

The Barracudas team has grown from 59 swimmers to 80 this year. Coach Skip Nitardy hopes to have about 65 of those swimmers compete at the Y state meet in March. That number is up by 30 from last year.

The following swimmers had top-three finishes at a recent invitational meet in Bangor: Madeline Branch, Jen Day, Bryan Dysart, Ethan Dysart, Gabbi Enriquez, Liam Harrigan, Ethan Hoksch, Alice Hwang, Min Hwang, Corey Isherwood, Meri Isherwood, Sarah Kelley, William Lindell, James Moreside, Paige Nitardy, Tara Nitardy, Laura Pasquine, Courtney Prue, Lauren Prue, Joey Quinn, Alyssa Reardon, Kayla Reed, Taylor Rogers, David Smallwood, Morgan Springer, Welles Tisdale, Ben VanKirk, Sarah VanKirk, Jamie Williams, Lilli Wiseman and Eliza Woodcock.

Lauren Budd, Mickayla Hagar, Caleb Hand, Fletcher Hand, Hannah Hooke, Kylie Smith, Caitlin Swalec, James VanKirk, Isaac Walton and Byrnn Williams earned top-six finishes in the same meet.

Corey Isherwood, Lauren Prue, Paige Nitardy and Min Hwang attained the 25 Best Times Award so far this season. Many other team members are close to earning the award and are working hard to achieve the goal.

The team has one more home meet this season. The second annual Memorial Meet will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Second Street location of the Bangor Y. To obtain more information, call Coach Skip Nitardy at 941-2808.
