Dylan George of Bangor High School has been named the Maine Boys Soccer Player of the Year for 2005 by Gatorade.
George, a senior striker for the Rams, scored 23 goals and added seven assists in 2005, raising his career totals to a school-record 52 goals and 21 assists. He also owns Bangor’s single-season record for goals scored with 26 in 2004.
A two-time first-team all-conference selection, George has twice been named Class A Player of the Year by the Maine Soccer Coaches Association, and received NSCAA all-America recognition in 2005.
“Dylan is thrilling to watch,” said Bangor head coach Adam Leach. “He has added a lot to our sport by making it something that people who traditionally don’t follow soccer want to see. Courteous, gracious and humble, Dylan is a great role model for the younger players.”
George joins recent Maine boys soccer Players of the Year Jesse Kaplan (2004) of Brunswick High School, Jimmy Velas (2003) of Falmouth High School, and Mike Videira (2002) of Noble and Green High School, among the state’s list of former award winners.
