ELLSWORTH – A Milbridge man was arrested with more than 74 grams of cocaine allegedly in his possession after a tip led to a traffic stop Tuesday on Route 1A.
Charles Robinson, 41, was charged with trafficking cocaine and trafficking prison contraband. Both charges are felonies.
Agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency received information that Robinson was travelling to Milbridge with cocaine, MDEA Division Commander Darrell Crandall said Wednesday.
Ellsworth Police stopped Robinson’s vehicle on Route 1A south of Route 179 at about noon. During a search, drug agents allegedly found a small amount of cocaine in his pocket.
Robinson was taken into custody and transported to the Hancock County Jail. At the jailhouse, corrections officers discovered an additional 74 grams of cocaine concealed in his clothing, Crandall said. The retail value of the drug is about $100 per gram.
Because of cocaine found at the jail, and because Robinson had opportunity to surrender it before getting to the jail, he also was booked on the dealing in prison contraband charge.
Robinson was released on bail Wednesday. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
