A Bangor man injured in a weekend ice climbing accident in New Hampshire was in critical condition Monday at a Portland hospital.

Scott Triolo, 25, suffered multiple injuries while climbing Cathedral Ledge in Conway, N.H.

He was transferred by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. Sunday when Triolo and a partner were belaying down the Thresher Route.

Triolo apparently was pausing at a ledge break area and was not connected to any safety devices when he fell about 50 feet to the bottom onto hard-packed rock and ice, New Hampshire authorities said.

He suffered multiple injuries.
