BANGOR – If you are looking for a new hobby, simply love beautiful needlework or want to try your hand at spinning, weaving, embroidery, knitting, crocheting or other fiber-related skills, check out the Fiber Arts Exhibition set for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Bangor Public Library.

Christy Coombs, a reference librarian accomplished at stitching, organized the exhibit. One of her needlework interests is reproducing historic, counted cross-stitch samplers.

Scattered throughout the library will be 29 area crafters exhibiting and demonstrating everything from crewel embroidery to rag rugs. Books about the needle arts from the library’s stacks will be on display and available for borrowing. Some of the exhibitors will have demonstrations geared toward children.

Visitors who attend the exhibit can talk to the fiber folks and learn how they got started at their craft. Find out what inspires them, get questions answered, learn where to take classes, find sources for materials and mill around in the company of others who like making stuff. The event also will offer opportunities for visitors to try stitching, weaving, braiding, knitting, crocheting or other crafts.
