Fryeburg’s Lathrop, Dyer post wins Hampden’s Morin, Mt. Blue’s Prentiss earn Class A skimeister honors

NEWRY – Fryeburg led the way in the State Class B Skiing Championships at Sunday River on Friday by winning the boys and girls slalom races.

Jeffery Lathrop won the boys slalom with a time of 1 minute, 13.08 seconds. Lathrop finished ahead of Falmouth’s Chris Moody (1:14.09) and teammate Joseph Atwood (1:14.92).

Amy Dyer took the girls slalom in 1:13.58. Gray-New Gloucester’s Emma Lobozzo placed second with a 1:23.03 and Annah Young of Maranacook of Readfield was third (1:28.17).

Yarmouth leads the team scoring after three of four events. The boys totaled 134 points after the giant slalom, slalom, and cross country freestyle races followed by Fryeburg (150) and Mountain Valley of Rumford (186).

The girls of Yarmouth posted a three-event total of 118, which barely leads Maranacook’s 125 and Fryeburg’s 189.

The championships conclude today with the cross country classical races.

On Thursday, the state Class A championships wrapped up with Mt. Blue of Farmingtonwinning the girls title and Leavitt of Turner Center claiming the boys championship.

The Mt. Blue girls finished with a four-event total of 112. Oxford Hills of South Paris was second with a 244, followed by Leavitt (275), Hampden Academy (496), and Camden Hills of Rockport (506).

The boys of Leavitt totaled 201 to beat out Mt. Blue’s 238. Edward Little of Auburn finished third with a 275 total followed by Oxford Hills (299), Hampden Academy (479), Camden Hills (517), and Lake Region (543).

Hampden Academy had three girls place in the skimeister competition, as Melony Morin won with a score of 143. Morgan Burke (151) and Anna Eyerer (187) were second and third, respectively.

Alexander Prentiss of Mt. Blue won the boys skimeister with a total of 61. Prentiss finished 23rd or better in all four races. Hampden Academy’s Fletcher Reed was second with a 105 total and Ryan Fitzsimons of Leavitt was just behind at 106.
