There seems to be a never-ending list of reality-show firsts and new seasons of the ones we love coming up.

As The Man on the Couch pointed out earlier this week, Spike TV will premiere a new show featuring average Joes, only this time nobody’s going on a date.

“Pros vs. Joes” will kick off at 10 p.m. Monday, March 6. The show pits 19 well-known professional sports figures against average Joes in a variety of challenges and sporting events from football to ice skating, according to The Associated Press.

The professionals are expected to include greats such as Jerry Rice and Bo Jackson.

The fourth season of “Nashville Star” with hosts Wynnona Judd and Cowboy Troy also is slated to kick off next month.

I admit, I wasn’t familiar with Troy until I did a little research and learned that he was the “hick-hop” rapper for Big & Rich. The band is slated to perform on this season’s premiere episode, and members also will serve as guest judges.

This season’s 10 finalists have big dreams of becoming the next country superstar by following in the footsteps of the show’s previous winners Buddy Jewell, Miranda Lambert, and Erika Jo.

As a country girl myself, I can tell you firsthand that the competition’s tough and a star will be born again this time around.

The contestants are younger, but their level of talent is just as great if not better than previous seasons. The five men and five women who will compete this season are mostly in their 20s.

Normally I don’t like to predict a winner early on, but after watching the brief preview clips, I’m rooting for 20-year-old Chris Young.

According to his bio, Young has the performing experience to make it big, having sung at the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville, Tenn., played the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., performed at the Apollo Theater in New York during Grammy week, and fronted the house band at the world famous Cowboy’s Dancehall in Arlington, Texas.

He’s also co-produced two full-length CDs, which he markets out of his trunk while driving around the country.

A Tennessee native, Young dreams of singing a duet with one of my favorites, George Strait.

And not to say, “I told you so,” but I did. UPN has pulled “Get This Party Started” after only two weeks, according to reality reports.
