Valley girls beat Rangeley in final State ‘C,’ ‘D’ title games Saturday

AUGUSTA – Senior guard Kristin Baker scored 15 points Saturday afternoon to lead No. 1 Valley of Bingham to a 39-31 victory over No. 2 Rangeley to win the Western Maine Class D girls basketball championship at the Augusta Civic Center.

Morgan Staples scored 10 points for the Cavaliers.

Ashley Quimbly paced Rangeley with 12 points and Nicole Crupi added nine points.

Valley advanced to Saturday’s 1 p.m. championship game against Eastern Maine champ Woodland at the Augusta Civic Center.

At the Augusta Civic Center, Nathaniel Damm scored 15 points to lead No. 2 Winthrop past No. 1 Boothbay to win the Western Maine Class C championship.

Sam Leclerc and Tyler Smithgail each scored 12 points for Winthrop.

Kris Noonan paced Boothbay with 17 points. Matt Sceviour scored 13 points and Roy Arsenault added 11.

Winthrop advanced to take on Eastern Maine champ Calais in Saturday’s 8:45 p.m. state final at the Augusta Civic Center.

At the Augusta Civic Center, William Milne posted 14 points to push No. 2 Richmond past No. 1 Valley of Bingham to win the Western Maine Class D championship.

Erik Nash scored 12 points for Richmond and Marc Zaharchuk added 11 points.

Travis Hovey paced Valley with 26 points and Cole Pullen added nine points.

Richmond will next take on Eastern Maine champ Central Aroostook of Mars Hill in Saturday’s 3 p.m. state final at the Augusta Civic Center.
