The 75 local and state leaders, businessmen and residents who attended Saturday’s Katahdin Summit set goals for improving the area’s economy, including:
. Supporting manufacturing, service-oriented businesses and tourism equally.
. Pushing regional small-business networking via the Eastern Maine Development Corp., local governments, the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Millinocket Area Growth and Investment Counci.
. Assessing and improving regional and downtown infrastructures and increasing Pine Tree Zone and other grant opportunities.
. Developing forums for area manufacturing and industrial companies to share ideas and resources.
. Marketing the Katahdin region and adjoining areas north as the world’s snowmobiling capital and promoting all-terrain vehicle offerings.
. Supporting and capitalizing on Hammond Ridge, Millinocket businessman Matthew Polstein’s proposed high-end regional resort center.
. Continuing dialogue between area business, service and government leaders that changes attitudes and improves regional community sensibilities.
