ORLANDO, Fla. – Sarah Bennis pitched a one-hit shutout as the University of Maine softball team earned a 2-0 win in the opening game of a doubleheader against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne, while Maine scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Mastadons in the nightcap Saturday at the Rebel Games.

Maine split Sunday’s games, beating Valparaiso 5-1 but falling to Saint Peter’s 2-0.

In Saturday’s first game, Bennis struck out five and walked two to earn the win. Amy Kuhl hit a two-run single to drive in Ashley Waters and Brittany Cheney in the top of the fourth. Marguerite Soule threw out a Mastadon baserunner at third in the second inning.

In Saturday’s second game, Jenna Beachy hit a two-run double to give IPFW a lead in the first inning and the Mastadons had a 6-5 lead in the seventh

The Black Bears rallied as Courtney Gingrich hit an RBI single and Meagan Ramos drove in the winning run on a suicide squeeze. Gingrich belted a three-run home run in the third inning.
