KINGSTON, Tenn. – A man wanted in Maine and New Hampshire for passing bad checks will have to face charges in Tennessee before he’s extradited, officials said.
Robert Fain, 48, of Sabattus, Maine, faces charges of reckless driving, reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest, fugitive from justice and theft of property, authorities said.
He was arrested last Friday after reportedly trying to run over Officer Troy Wright. Wright fired several shots but missed, according to WATE-TV in Knoxville.
In Maine, Fain was accused of passing more than $13,000 worth of checks drawn on a closed account in exchange for two ATVs.
He is being investigated in a series of similar incidents in Maine and New Hampshire with a total loss of at least $60,000, according to MaineMostWanted.com, a Web site sponsored by the University of Maine at Augusta and the Maine Community Policing Institute.
Fain has an extensive criminal history in Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Florida, Texas, New York and Oklahoma, investigators say.
