Alton
The annual town meeting will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at the municipal building.
Voters will elect one selectman for one three-year term and fill three positions available on the school board, two for two-year terms and one for a three-year term.
Among items to be considered, the budget committee has proposed to take $30,000 out of the surplus fund to cover the wages of the appointed positions of clerk, tax collector and treasurer.
The second article will put to a vote whether the town will establish the position of clerical administrator, a position that will lump together the positions of town clerk, registrar of voters, E911 coordinator and assistant to the board of selectmen. The operating cost of the position would be around $38,000.
The budget committee is proposing to pay off the $35,000 loan for the municipal building, while the town wishes to create a reserve account for future funds received from the Juniper Ridge Landfill.
The school’s budget will be voted on separately in June.
At 9:30 a.m., the registrar will be at the municipal building the day of the meeting to register voters.
