‘Half-truth’ clarified

In the Associated Press article, “Gubernatorial race attracts 14 candidates” (BDN, March 6), Glenn Adams reports that my campaign does not plan to raise or spend money. This is a half-truth.

It is accurate that my campaign is not collecting donations. How-ever, although I have not done so at this point in the campaign, it has never been stated that personal funding would not be used. Those were Adams’ words.

Those words seemed to imply that this was not a serious effort. As a write-in candidate for governor, I am not just talking about how the state needs to stop wasting taxpayer money, I am proving it by the very campaign itself. I will not ask hard-working Mainers to donate money to my campaign when many are struggling just to keep money in their pockets. I, also, am not looking to qualify as a “Clean Candidate” in order to use roughly $1.1 million of taxpayer money to fund an individual campaign.

Much wiser choices, such as improvements for a school or further heating assistance, should be made with those funds. One cannot truly be on the campaign trail saying they will cut waste of taxpayer money, while contributing to the waste oneself. It sounds like rhetoric to me.

It is time that Mainers get the money and “politics” out of the election, and get back to the issues. Take a stand. Make a change. See a difference.
