Meetings set to discuss revisions in Allagash Waterway plan

The Maine Department of Conservation’s Bureau of Parks and Lands has announced a series of public meetings on the proposed revisions to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway management plan.

Public comment on the revisions will be accepted at the meetings, while written comment may be submitted until April 28.

“We have seen continued interest in the revisions proposed last summer,” DOC Commissioner Patrick K. McGowan said. “We held five public meetings in late 2005, but we want to make sure that everyone has a chance to comment. The Allagash is a special place for Mainers and our visitors. We want to have a management plan that addresses the concerns of all users of the Waterway.”

The meeting schedule:

. Tuesday, March 21, at Fort Kent Town Hall, 6 p.m.

. Tuesday, April 4, at the Department of Transportation conference room in Bangor, 6 p.m.

. Tuesday, April 11, at the Department of Conservation’s Bolton Hill facility in Augusta, 6 p.m.

Directions to the meeting sites will be posted on the Bureau of Parks and Lands Web site at www.parksandlands.com.
