Milo bound
Last week’s article about Valerie Jean’s, An American Bistro left many readers driving the long and winding road to Milo. However, owner Melissa Ettinger says there’s an easier way to get there: Take Route 16 from Orono or Old Town. It will lead you directly to the restaurant. On the way back, you can hook up with the Interstate, which makes the trip even shorter.
Green day
It is easy being green, with a little help from McCormick’s food coloring. If you’re planning a St. Patrick’s Day party, follow these guidelines: For green beer, add 5 drops of food coloring per 12 ounces. For green lemon-lime soda, add 6 drops. To color blue cheese dressing to serve with Buffalo wings, add 12 drops of coloring to 1/2 cup of dressing, and for ranch or French onion dip to serve with chips and veggies, add 20 drops of green and 3 drops of yellow per 1 cup of dip. A sophisticated sip
If the idea of green beer on St. Patrick’s Day turns you off, try Salada’s equally festive Green Tea Martini. To make, combine 1 ounce Salada green tea, chilled, 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier, 2 ounces citron vodka and ice in a shaker. Dip the rim of a chilled martini glass into lime juice, then sugar. Serve and garnish with lime slices.
