A Bangor man learned the importance of locking his car – no matter the location – the hard way on Wednesday morning.
The 23-year-old man left his unlocked Nissan Altima parked outside his Howard Street apartment building Tuesday night and came out to find $320 worth of his possessions gone the next morning.
Bangor police Officer Randall Parsons reported to the scene where the man said a radar detector, a green canvas bag containing papers, a black Lisbon Federal Credit Union bag containing a weight belt, an RCA MP3 player, and a pair of red and black sneakers, had been taken from his vehicle.
Officer Parsons checked with three of the man’s neighbors, and has no suspects at this time.
A Bangor man was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center after a car accident Wednesday afternoon.
Gene Young, 37, was a passenger in a four-door Saturn driven by Sarah Bradley, 31, when they were rear-ended by another vehicle on Hammond Street.
Officer Paul Colley of the Bangor Police Department arrived at the scene where Young, of Bangor, was complaining of chest and stomach pain. He was taken to EMMC, where he was treated and then released.
Paul Rush, 19, of Patten was traveling behind Bradley, of Bangor, in a 1997 Ford van and struck her car when traffic slowed.
Both drivers and Young were wearing seat belts.
No tickets were issued, but Officer Colley determined Rush was at fault.
The estimated damage to Bradley’s car was $1,000. There was no damage to the van driven by Rush.
A request to check on an Alton man’s well-being Wednesday morning prompted a brief helicopter search of the area.
Sgt. Scott Young of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department went to the Bennoch Road area after a report of a person missing in the Alton woods.
A deputy making a helicopter training flight nearby was asked to search the woods from the air, Young said. “We searched the area, found nothing and cleared,” Young said.
Young declined to release further details about the incident.
