BANGOR – The wold famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team has teamed up with the Bangor Region Junior Achievement Program in a new fundraising effort. Discount coupons for the 2006 Harlem Globetrotters games are available at local Junior Achievement offices. The team will play in Bangor on March 29.

The coupon entitles the holder to a $4 discount off ticket prices, and for each coupon used, the local Junior Achievement Council receives $1.

Junior Achievement provides business education and workforce readiness programs to K-12 students in every major city in the United States and in 100 countries in the world.

“We are thrilled to join with the Harlem Globetrotters in this unique fundraising program,” said Melissa Bourque, president of Junior Achievement Maine. “As the Harlem Globetrotters bring fun, family entertainment to cities across the nation, their fans will be able to benefit JA’s economics, business and entrepreneurship programs to help us reach more students in Greater Bangor.”

The Harlem Globetrotters’ “Unstoppable” 2006 North American tour will travel to more than 200 U.S. cities. Committed to giving back to the communities that have supported them throughout their 80-year history, the Globetrotters have donated more than $11 million to various charitable organizations since 1993. The Globetrotters also visit local schools and hospitals as goodwill ambassadors when their schedule permits. They also have entertained U.S. and coalition servicemen and women around the world.

The discount coupons are available at the Bangor Letter Shop, 99 Washington St., Bangor; the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, 519 Main St., Bangor; and the YMCA of Old Town-Orono, 472 Stillwater Ave., Old Town, during regular business hours. Ticket prices are $1 for VIP seats; $26 for all other bleachers, stadium and lower balcony seats; and $16 for upper balcony seats. Tickets are available at the Bangor Auditorium-Civic Center box office.
