TAMPA, Fla. – Sean Brawn slammed a three-run homer to spark the Husson College baseball team to their seventh win of the season, 7-4 over Ripon College, a team ranked in the top 25, Wednesday afternoon.

Justin Spencer singled twice, doubled and scored four runs while Andrew Patterson had three singles and an RBI for the Eagles of Bangor.

At Lantana, Fla., Ryan Quintal tripled, double twice and drove in four runs to lead the Bears past Long Island University and help them improve to 7-6.

The Bears broke open the game with a seven-run seventh inning after the two teams were tied at 3-3. Quintal provided the big hit in the inning with a three-run triple and Sean Parker had an RBI double.

Sophomore lefthander Nolan Boike earned the victory for Maine as he pitched 7 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out two and improved to 2-0.

Maine plays Iona today at 1 p.m. at Palm Beach, Fla.

Softball

Maine wins two

At Orlando, Fla., Brittany Cheney delivered the game-winning RBI single to bring home Ashley Waters to lift the University of Maine past Lafayette 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Black Bears defeated Cleveland State 2-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Tara Vilardo hit a single and scored a run. Ashley Waters added a triple and a double for the Black Bears.

In the second game, Sarah Bennis struck out five while allowing only four hits to push her record to 10-1.

Cheney had two singles, Courtney Gingrich hit an RBI double while Bennis added an RBI single.
