Carolyn W. Mowers of Cape Elizabeth was elected chairman of the board of directors of the Bangor Publishing Co., publisher of the Bangor Daily News, at the annual meeting of the company’s board of directors Tuesday.

Continuing a multigenerational family tradition, Mowers, sister of BDN Publisher Richard J. Warren, assumes the chairmanship from her mother, Joanne J. Van Namee, who passed away the week before the meeting. Mrs. Van Namee had assumed the role upon the death of her mother, Lillis Towle Jordan, in 1986.

A native of Bangor, Mowers graduated from Rogers Hall in Lowell, Mass., in 1965, the American School, Lugano, Switzerland, and attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C.

She is the mother of Scott W. Farley, who lives in Cadillac, Mich., with his wife, Jill, and their three sons, Brett, Benjamin and Bryan; and Jennifer E. Mowers, of Cape Elizabeth.
