2 women charged with shoplifting at Kohl’s

Two Bangor women were arrested and charged with taking more than $400 in clothing, jewelry and other items from the Kohl’s store in Bangor.

Both were arrested Thursday on theft charges, but by Friday, only one remained incarcerated. Nicole O’Connor, 23, was released from jail while Heidi Pullen, also 23, was serving a sentence of five days in jail Friday after a court appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor, a jail corrections officer said.

Bangor police officers were called to the Stillwater Avenue store at 3:25 p.m. after a report of two shoplifters who were in the store’s parking lot and uncooperative. Sgt. Donald Gagner arrived within four minutes, but by then the women had calmed down and were in the store’s security office. Gagner used his cruiser to block a car the women had been in that was still running. Another woman and two toddlers were in the car.

O’Connor initially gave security and Gagner a different name, and she was subsequently charged with failure to provide a correct name.

Items stolen included nearly $300 in jewelry, $115 in clothing, and the rest in miscellaneous items.

A Bangor resident reported to police late Thursday night that a man was yelling at a woman holding an infant in a neighboring park.

They were just arguing, according to the police report, although the man involved wasn’t supposed to have any contact with the woman, his girlfriend, after a domestic assault incident in Piscataquis County.

Carl Hartley, 37, of Sangerville also was not supposed to possess a dangerous weapon, but after his arrest on the bail violation, Bangor police Officer James Dearing found a small folding knife in the man’s left pants pocket.

Three pieces of equipment worth approximately $90,000 that were missing from a Bangor business for more than a week were found Sunday.

The equipment, taken from TB Equipment and Rental on two separate occasions, consisted of a skid steer, which looks like a small front-end loader, an excavator and flatbed truck. The machinery was found abandoned in a pit in Hampden. There was no damage to the skid steer and a small amount of damage to the excavator, which has been repaired. The truck was destroyed, according to Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison of the Bangor Police Department.

Kenison said the investigation is continuing.

Vaughn Thibodeau, the owner of TB Equipment and Rental, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.
