U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has selected Jane Root-Sylvain of Linneus to serve as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women.

Root-Sylvain is the director of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians’ Domestic Violence Response Program.

She was selected based on her leadership and the efforts she has made to bring public awareness to the serious crimes of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The National Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence is co-chaired by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services. Its general purpose is to end violence against women.
