BREWER – A man walked into the Irving Mainway on North Main Street early Monday morning, and after threatening the clerk, he robbed the convenience store of an undisclosed amount of cash and then just walked away.

The suspect’s image was caught on the store’s surveillance cameras and was posted Monday afternoon on Brewer Police Department’s Web site as the department’s “Most Wanted,” in hopes that residents would recognize the man and contact law enforcement with leads to his identity.

The male suspect is described as 5-feet, 10-inches to 6-feet tall, weighing about 180 to 200 pounds, about 40-50 years old with graying hair and a goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, black knit cap and bluejeans when he strolled into the store on North Main Street just after 1 a.m.

“He threatened the clerk and instructed him to turn over all the cash in the register,” according to a press release from Brewer police. “After taking the cash, the man left the store walking toward Holyoke Street.”

Police received the emergency call from the store at 1:06 a.m., but because the crime is still under investigation, they are not releasing the amount of cash taken from the register or the manner in which the male clerk was threatened.

Lt. Perry Antone said Monday that the amount stolen was less than $1,000.

All Irving convenience stores are equipped with security cameras, Michelle Firmbach, Irving Oil Corp. spokeswoman, said Monday.

“They have been in place for a long period of time,” she said, adding that: “There have been no robberies at that location in recent years.”

The robbery was the “first we’ve had in quite a while, within the [entire] city,” Antone said.

Cpl. David Lord, Detective Sgt. Jay Munson, and Paul Gauvin, dog officer, are handling the investigation for Brewer police and have been assisted by Michael Jewett, dog handler for Bangor Police Department, and his dog, Rex.
