MADAWASKA – Two Madawaska men have been charged in connection with three burglaries and a theft that occurred in February and early March.
Christopher Joyner and Kevin Dube were charged after a joint investigation by a state police trooper and Madawaska police officers. Police found stolen tools in the apartment of the accused men Sunday night.
Joyner, 27, is charged with three felony counts of receiving stolen property valued at more than $1,000. He was being held at Aroostook County Jail Tuesday in lieu of bail. He was also charged with violation of bail conditions. He was allegedly found to be in possession of a firearm, a violation of a previous bail condition.
Dube, 21, was charged with two counts of theft and one count of burglary. He has been released on $10,000 surety and cash bail.
Both men had their initial appearance in District Court at Caribou on Monday.
Madawaska Police Chief Ronald Pelletier said Officers Dave Beaulieu and Jamie Pelletier worked with Trooper Corey Hafford to solve the burglaries and theft that occurred on Feb 23, 24 and March 7.
The two earlier incidents happened at the Adelphia tower on Frontier Drive. Vehicles were broken into and tools were taken. Also, tools and a stereo system were taken from two vehicles that had been broken into while parked at H & S Garage on 11th Avenue in Madawaska.
On March 7, the pair allegedly broke into Duplissee’s Garage in Grand Isle.
Pelletier said the three officers were discussing the three incidents and noticed similarities. Officers received more information Sunday and obtained a warrant to search an apartment at 151 25th Ave. on Sunday.
With assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol, the apartment, leased to Joyner, was searched on Sunday. Tools from all three sites were found.
Pelletier said the two men had been living together for more than a month.
Hafford said the burglaries and thefts happened during night hours.
Assistant District Attorney Catherine Francke said the two men will be arraigned April 20.
Francke said the investigation is continuing. She said other victims could come forward and that other charges may be forthcoming.
The two men cannot have contact with the victims of the crimes.
