CUSHING – Townspeople turned down several proposed regulations at Tuesday’s annual town meeting and at the polls the previous day.
A building permit ordinance was strongly rejected, Town Clerk Lisa Young said Wednesday, and a flood-plain ordinance failed by a 49-37 vote. Both measures were addressed at town meeting.
A 2006 gross municipal budget of $565,865 also was approved by voters.
At the polls Monday, secret ballots were cast on a junkyard ordinance, which was rejected by a 145-93 vote. The ordinance would have regulated automobile graveyards, automobile recycling businesses and junkyards.
None of the elected officers was opposed.
Voters re-elected Selectmen David Glidden and Peter Haviland to three-year terms. Assessor Dan Remian and Treasurer Fred Berg also were re-elected to three-year and one-year seats, respectively.
Former SAD 50 Director David Cobey was elected to a three-year seat. Barbara Daggett withdrew her SAD 50 candidacy before the election, but it was too late to remove her name from the ballot, Young said, noting Cobey won regardless. Frank Muddle won a five-year planning board seat.
