KUCO outreach supper for Heifer International

Katahdin United Christian Outreach is a newly formed organization in the Millinocket-East Millinocket-Medway area, wrote Dave Haskins of Millinocket.

KUCO is hosting a Turkey Supper “with all the trimmings” 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 24, at the Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club in Millinocket.

A donation of $6 per meal is requested, and takeout will be available.

Proceeds, after expenses, will benefit Heifer International, which, according to its Web site, is a “nonprofit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance and sustainability.”

Heifer International currently is supporting 600 projects in 51 countries.

The membership of Northern Timber Cruisers is not charging for the use of its clubhouse.

Also, Haskins added, the Social Justice and Peace Commission of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Millinocket “has made a generous cash contribution, which will be added to the proceeds of this supper and given to Heifer International.”

Haskins explained that KUCO “includes the World Missions Committee from Millinocket’s First Congregational Church, and members from East Millinocket Baptist Church and Millinocket Baptist Church.” Haskins is chairman and Alice McInnis is the treasurer.

“It is our hope that this fundraiser for Heifer International will become an annual event, which will involve all area churches and other philanthropic organizations,” he wrote.
