The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth has scholarships available for Penobscot County students. The following funds are available to Penobscot County residents:
. Drake Scholarship Fund – one scholarship a year to a graduating senior of Brewer High pursuing post-secondary education. Contact the Brewer guidance office. Application deadline is April 15.
. Maynard and Clara Eldridge Scholarship Fund, to two Hampden Academy students each year who plan to continue post-secondary education for careers in agriculture, veterinary science, environmental protection or a comparable pursuit. Contact Hampden Academy guidance office.
. Roderick E. and Margaret D. Farnham Fund, established in 1996, for a graduate of Hampden Academy continuing education at an accredited post-secondary college or university, with preference for those attending Colby College. Contact HA guidance office.
. Dr. Stephen J. Haggan Scholarship Fund – established in 1997, for a graduating senior of Hampden Academy. Contact HA guidance office.
. Hampden Academy Fund of the Whitmore Trust, for graduating seniors of Hampden Academy. Contact Hampden Academy guidance office.
. Hampden Academy Fund Scholarship, established in 1997, for a graduating senior of Hampden Academy. Contact HA guidance office.
. Chet Jordan Leadership Award Fund, established in 1995 in memory of Chet Jordan, a businessman who exhibited a deep sense of civic responsibility. The Chet Jordan Leadership Award is presented to students who are emerging leaders in their community and school. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors at high schools in: Augusta, Bangor, Brewer, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Deering, Falmouth, Gorham, Katahdin, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Yarmouth and Aroostook County. Applicants must be leaders despite hardship, adversity or disability. Academic excellence is not a prerequisite, but demonstrated compassion, dependability and hard work are. . Ruth Milan-Altrusa Scholarship Fund, established in 1993 in memory of Ruth Milan, for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing in the EMMC-Husson College Nursing Program. Contact Husson College financial aid office.
. Jeffrey Peet Memorial Scholarship Fund, for graduates of Hampden Academy pursuing post-secondary education. Contact Hampden Academy guidance office.
. Marion F. and Peter Plouff Scholarship Fund, provides renewable support to residents of Dexter to pursue education at a post-secondary institution. Preference given to non-traditional students who have a record of community service, and to students for whom a scholarship would make a significant difference in their ability to attend college. Contact Dexter Adult Education Program or Maine Community Foundation. Application deadline May 1.
. Addie B. Pinkham, Ava A. Merrill and Wilma A. Richardson Scholarship Fund, for graduating seniors of Mattanawcook Academy to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. Contact MA guidance office. Deadline April 15.
. Joleen Fitzpatrick Raymond Scholarship Fund, established in 1995 for graduates of Houlton High School and Orono High School to pursue a post-secondary program in education. Contact Houlton and Orono guidance offices.
. Sawyer Scholarship Fund, for sons, daughters and spouses of employees of the Sawyer Group of Companies (officers and directors not eligible). The fund offers scholarships to qualifying students pursuing vocational training or advanced educational studies beyond high school. Contact Kerry Woodbury, Casella Waste Systems Inc. Deadline May 1.
. Ruth Good and Louis C. Stearns III Scholarship Fund, established in 1989 and endowed in 1994, for graduates of Hampden Academy. Contact HA guidance office.
. Marshall Stern Scholarship Fund, established in 1995 in memory of Marshall A. Stern. A graduate of Bangor High School, the University of Maine and Suffolk Law School, he had a great love and respect for education and his alma mater, the University of Maine. The fund provides scholarship support for graduates of Bangor High School attending the University of Maine. Selection based on academic achievement, leadership and financial need. . Emily Trussell Stupak Scholarship Fund – provides scholarships, for graduating seniors from high schools in the Penobscot Valley Conference who are furthering their education at an accredited college or university. Scholarship awards are based on a demonstrated, passionate dedication and excellence in a chosen athletic pursuit that the student plans to continue at the college level.
