Stetson boy denies setting fire at school

NEWPORT – A 14-year-old Stetson boy denied in court on Wednesday that he set a fire and vandalized Stetson Elementary School in February.

The boy’s hearing was set for 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Newport District Court, according to Assistant District Attorney Margaret Gray.

The damage to the school, located on Route 222, included smoke damage and paint splattered on walls and equipment, all of which has been repaired. The vandalism was discovered by a school custodian.

The teen faces charges of arson, burglary and criminal mischief.

Gray would not comment on any details of the charges.
