Mainville no-hits MIT

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Katie Mainville pitched her third career no-hitter to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 4-0 softball victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the first of two games Monday.

The Huskies beat Thomas College of Waterville 3-0 in the second game.

In the first game, Mainville struck out nine and walked two to pace the Huskies.

Whitney Westman had an RBI single while Danica Martin and Dawn Ross each drove in a run. Sabrina Mills added a single for Southern Maine.

In the second game, Caitlin Stivaletta had a triple and scored while Christen Lachapelle hit an RBI double in the third to put USM on the board. Mills added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Bre Loon scattered seven hits in the shutout.

Colby drops two games

At Fort Myers, Fla., Gustavus Adolphus held off a late Colby rally in the first game for a 7-4 victory over the White Mules.

Colby fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second game 8-0.

In the first game, Tory Starr had two hits, including a solo home run in the seventh inning for Colby. Michelle Presby also had two hits and Lauren Olmsted had a two-run single.

In the second game, the Mules fell behind 5-0 after two innings and managed only three hits.

Colby sweeps Oberlin

At Fort Myers, Fla., Tyler Hales had a two-run double in the sixth inning of the second game to lead Colby by Oberlin 6-2.

The Mules also defeated Oberlin 6-2 in the first game.

In the first game, Nick Spillane, Roddy Ames and Craig Cooper each had two hits while Hales drove in a pair of runs. Ames and Cooper each added an RBI.

In the second game, Jon Vacca had three hits while Spillane and Andy Carr both had two hits. John Murphy added an RBI for Colby.

At Mesa, Ariz., senior Ryan Rulman pitched and won his third consecutive complete game for the Terriers of Waterville.

Thomas scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 5-5 tie, then held on for the win.

Derek Sands hit two singles, knocked in two, and scored twice to pace the Terriers. Jordan Stebbins added a pair of singles, and Matt Pavlis had three RBIs.

Tyler Saladin hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run for the Hawks.
