MONTVILLE – A Knox teen suffered two broken legs when his car crashed while he was attempting to outrun two Waldo County sheriff’s deputies early Sunday, police said.
Joseph Philbrook, 19, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after the 1:20 a.m. wreck on Route 220.
According to the police report, Deputy Dale Brown was heading toward Unity on Route 220 when a 1992 Oldsmobile went speeding by in the opposite direction. Brown turned around and gave chase. Brown clocked the speeding car at 86 mph.
Deputy Matt Curtis was traveling on Route 220 in Knox at the same time and also encountered the speeding car coming from the opposite direction. Curtis turned his cruiser around and also gave chase.
The speeding car continued into Montville and left the road when the road curved to the right. The vehicle became airborne and rolled over before coming to rest in a ditch next to Philbrook, who was thrown from the vehicle.
Alcohol and speed were factors, according to the report.
