Regarding the March 22 article about the child sex offender bill being tabled, I am disturbed by this. Do lawmakers realize the possible great reduction in repeat offenders? Do they realize that by putting this law into effect they would be taking these people off the streets and keeping our children safe?
If their children were among the many victims of these horrible people they would pass the bill immediately. My child’s offender got only two years for his crimes against my child and others to be served concurrently, and he was a repeat offender.
Children get the life sentence and sickos get a slap on the wrist. There’s justice for you.
It would put these innocent children’s minds at ease knowing the person who stole their innocence won’t be able to hurt them again or anyone else for many years. I know my child would be resting easier if the perpetrator was still in jail. I was lucky my child did not end up like Jessica Lunsford, although a part of her died. How many does there have to be before they get more than a slap on the wrist?
If these children were able to testify in closed chambers so they wouldn’t have to be near the offenders there would probably be more children testifying. Both sides could question the child and it could be fed into the courtroom. They threaten the child saying something bad will happen if they tell. That is why so many are afraid to.
If they mess with our children they lose a good part of their lives and freedom. No child should have to lose his or her childhood because of these creeps.
