Fine the employers

In last Thursday’s Bangor Daily News was another story about a trucker driving after multiple suspensions of his driver’s license. It is time employers are heavily fined if their employees are required to drive and they do so without a valid driver’s license.

I do volunteer work for a nonprofit organization and the work requires me to drive a car. Before I could begin my volunteer work I had to show my driver’s license and prove I have automobile insurance (another Maine law). Should we require less from an employer of a profitable business?

Also, employers should be required to take some sort of disciplinary action if their drivers are caught driving while under the influence when operating a vehicle while working. This is the only way to stop those long-distance truckers from operating a vehicle when their license is suspended under the influence of alcohol.
