Man arrested after Brewer incident

A Brewer man was arrested Tuesday night after he pretended to be deaf and mute at Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

When Brewer police arrived on scene, Shelldon Runar, 47, of Brewer was outside the restaurant still fuming from an incident inside.

It was reported that Runar had walked into the restaurant and pretended to be a deaf-mute. He pointed to items on the menu to order and was served. He then started to become “irate” according to police. He broke a saltshaker and jabbed it in the direction of his waitress.

Managers asked Runar to leave and he did but came back to shake the manager’s hand, but when he got a hold he tried to break the manager’s fingers.

Runar started talking when police arrived and the officers noticed he had an MP3 player with him. Both facts indicated that he was not deaf or mute. He also had a valid driver’s license.

Runar became agitated with the officers and started making “wild hand gestures.”

Runar was handcuffed and taken to Penobscot County Jail where he was charged with assault and resisting arrest. He remained there Wednesday night.

A moose was hit on Route 2 in Passadumkeag around about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday sending two people to the hospital.

Two females were traveling north on Route 2 near the Marquis Farm when a young bull stepped out in front of them. They hit it head on and it flipped up onto the roof of the car.

Both females were hurt in the accident and were taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital for treatment. The driver reportedly had head and chest wounds but the passenger only complained of a headache and an injured hand.

The moose was killed upon impact. It was taken into the woods for nature to take care of.

Two women were charged with possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia in Brewer on Tuesday night.

Officers went to North Main St. around 8:45 p.m. looking for Deborah Becker, 41, of Brewer because she had an outstanding warrant in York County for unpaid fines and fees.

Officers knocked on the door, found Becker, and placed her under arrest for the warrant. Upon a search of her they found a plastic baggie in her pocket containing white powder and a pipe. There were also Vicodin, and a pill crusher in plain view in the apartment.

It was determined that the Vicodin belonged to Laura Clark, 19, of Brewer. Clark was summoned for possession of Schedule W drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Becker was taken to Penobscot County jail and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and Schedule W drugs when the white powder was tested and determined to be cocaine. She remained at the jail Wednesday night.
