Navy ships to visit coastal communities

Navy ships will call at a half-dozen coastal Maine communities during summer festivals.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins announced the visits Wednesday.

The schedule:

. Boothbay Harbor, during its annual Windjammer Days Festival, June 26-30.

. Eastport during the Fourth of July Festival, to be held June 30-July 5.

. Belfast, during its annual Bay Festival, planned for July 17-21. Last week, local organizers told the Belfast City Council that they planned to cancel this year’s festival, leaving its status uncertain.

. Bucksport during the Downeast Gateway Festival (formerly the Fort Knox Bay Festival), to be held July 27-31.

. Rockland during the 59th annual Maine Lobster Festival, to be held Aug. 3-7.

. Camden’s 12th annual Windjammer Weekend, to be held Aug. 31-Sept. 5.
