The Rock Church of Greater Bangor is a new nondenominational congregation on a 10.5-acre lot at the corner of Ohio Street and Finson Road in Bangor. With the help of its parent, the Rock Church of Greater Portland, the congregation bought a building last October and has begun to hold services at 10 a.m. Sundays. The congregation has grown to 120 members. The pastor is Kirk Winters, a native of Brewer and graduate of the University of Maine in Orono. In the ’70s, before moving to Brewer, he lived in Old Capehart with his family. Winters’ wife, Lisa, is a graduate of Bangor High School. She grew up in New Capehart. Part of the vision of the Rock Church is to reach out to families and individuals in these communities through free programs for children and youth. For information, call 942-9977.
