STANDISH – Charlie Furbush led Saint Joseph’s College’s 22-hit attack with two doubles, two singles and six RBIs in the first game and the Monks swept a Friday baseball doubleheader against University of Maine-Presque Isle with back-to-back shutouts, 29-0 and 10-0.

In the first game, Brian Schools had two doubles, two singles and two RBIs for the Monks. Sean O’Brien (five RBIs), Chris Doughty (three RBIs) and Keil Martin (three RBIs) and each had three hits to pace the onslaught.

Josh Biddington’s single was the lone hit for the UMPI Owls.

In the second game, Andrew Wood had three singles and two RBIs to lead a 14-hit attack. Luke Enman hit a solo home run and tripled while Ben Muniz had a double and a single.

At Fort Myers, Fla., Andy Carr stroked three doubles and a single to power Colby College of Waterville to victory over Trinity Christian College.

Roddy Ames smacked a triple and two doubles for the White Mules (5-4) behind winner Tyler Hales.

Softball

Colby splits

At Fort Myers, Fla., Alyssa Crowell pitched a one-hitter over five innings as Colby beat Oberlin 8-0 after the White Mules fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater 2-0 earlier in the day.

In the second game, Crowell had three strikeouts and no walks. She added two RBIs and Alaina Clark hit a two-run single in the fourth. Oberlin’s Kate Oberg gave up nine hits in the loss.

In the first game, Kim Ostroski scattered six hits and Wisconsin-Whitewater scored runs in the first and third innings. Colby’s Randy Arsenault picked up the loss, also allowing six hits.

Saint Joseph’s, Brandeis split

At Standish, Colby McKenney’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh gave Saint Joseph’s College of Standish a 2-1 victory and a split of their doubleheader with Brandeis.

Brandeis won the opener 4-0.

In the opener, Amelia Schimmel posted two singles, and Mary Levine added a double and an RBI.

Alysn Ludwig, Gabrille Burrola, McKenney, and Deb Brown each had a single.

In the nightcap, Kristi Albert logged two singles for the Monks, and Burrola rapped a double. Coleen Delahanty tossed a four-hitter for the win.

Elissa Gluckeman, Schimmel, Streilein, and Marissa Rubin singled for the Judges.
