Ryan Quintal scored three runs and racked up five RBIs to lead the University of Maine baseball team to a 12-5 victory over Delaware State Sunday in Dover, Del., as the Black Bears earned three wins and a tie this weekend.

Maine also logged a 3-3 tie against the Hornets one day after sweeping the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in a doubleheader Saturday at Princess Anne, Md., earning 26-15 and 11-3 wins.

In Sunday’s first game, Quintal homered and hit two singles for Maine. Kevin McAvoy hit a three-run homer while Curt Smith doubled and added two singles for two RBIs. Three Black Bear pitchers combined on a fouir-hitter.

Jon Ricketts led Delaware State with a double, a single and three RBIs.

In Sunday’s second game, the Bears and the Hornets played eight innings but ended in a tie. Matt McGraw and Joel Barrett each had an RBI, while Barrett and Billy Cather each had two singles. Ricketts doubled for Delaware State.

In Saturday’s first game, the Bears scored 26 runs on 24 hits, including six for extra bases. Joe Hough hit a 3-run homer and finished with four RBIs. Danny Menendez, McAvoy, and Bobby Brown each drove in three runs on three hits. Quintal scored four runs.

Morgan Schirmer had four RBIs for the Hawks.

In Saturday’s second game, McAvoy racked up three more RBIs on three singles and Barrett added a two-run single. Pat Moran earned the save. Joel Maher had two RBIs and a single for UMES.
