This weekend is a very special one for drama students at John Bapst Memorial High School, especially for senior Marc Girard.

Girard is the student director for the program’s production of “Brigadoon,” with the curtain going up at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the school, 100 Broadway in Bangor.

Tickets for the classic Lerner and Loewe Broadway musical featuring the John Bapst Players are $5 each and can be purchased from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily through Friday in the school’s Fine Arts Office or at the door.

“For me, getting to be student director my senior year is really a treat,” Girard said when asked to comment on his challenging task. “I get a chance to see what the show is all about from a different perspective, from the opposite side of the stage.”

Girard wrote that he had “always participated in Bapst’s musicals before as an actor, so this is a great change of pace for me. I feel great about my time at Bapst as a student, and this is a perfect way to round out my high school experience.”

On behalf of the Women’s Health Center of Bar Harbor, Jane Tawney invites you to “follow the yellow brick road” for two presentations of “Sing Along Wizard of Oz” at 2 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor.

When you attend the classic movie, you can do so dressed as your favorite, or least favorite, character. Prizes for best costumes will be awarded for age groups under 12 and over 12.

Tickets are $6 and will be available at the door.

Raffle tickets for multiple prizes donated by area businesses and individuals will also be offered at this event that benefits improvements in the office space of the health center.

Tawney reports that, as part of the Mount Desert Island Hospital and Health Centers, “the WHC is dedicated to providing women the highest quality of health care in a safe and caring atmosphere, nurturing mind, body and spirit.”

Here is a final reminder that anyone who wishes to participate in Orono Creates must register by Saturday by writing Mary Anne Eason, 595 Forest Ave., Orono 04473, e-mailing maeason@eece.maine.edu or calling her at 941-9727.

Members of the Orono Bicentennial Committee are inviting current and former residents, including University of Maine students and staff, no matter where they are currently living, to participate in this bicentennial arts and crafts event.

Orono Creates is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Asa Adams School gymnasium in Orono.

Disc jockey Tommy Dean will appear at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mr. Paperback in Ellsworth with copies of “In Memory of Carole,” a country and western CD.

The album was a gift from several country music stars to honor Dean’s late sister, Carole Salisbury, who was born with Down syndrome and died in 2003.

The CDs are $12 each, and all proceeds benefit Maine Special Olympics.

Singer-songwriter Lucie Blue Tremblay will perform a benefit concert for The Breast Exam Project at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Brunswick High School’s Crooker Auditorium.

Advance tickets are $20 through Drop Me A Line, 773-5547, or $25 at the door.

The concert is sponsored by the Coastal Women’s Connection.

Concert coordinator Betsy Carolan wrote the sponsors “are in hopes of having as many people as possible at this concert to raise money and awareness for this worthwhile cause.

“Breast cancer affects both men and women, and we hope this event will encourage everyone in Maine to do their self breast exams on a regular basis.”

For more information, call Carolan at 772-2113.
