BREWER – Brewer Middle School will welcome singer-songwriter David Mallett for his annual Brewer concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the school, 5 Somerset St. Mallett’s Brewer shows have become a must-see event for music fans, and this marks his sixth straight year of performing at the school.
Mallett, who was named one of the Most Memorable Mainers of the 20th Century by the Bangor Daily News, has been writing and performing for more than 30 years. His works include “The Garden Song.”
His albums and CDs have earned rave reviews and his songs have been recorded by a wide range of artists including Alison Kraus, John Denver, Hal Ketchum, Kathy Mattea and Peter, Paul and Mary.
The New York Times said that Mallett “harks back to the earliest ambitions and heartfelt melodies of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, singing with the conviction that folk can still be heroic.”
His most recent recording, “Artist In Maine,” was named Album of the Year by the readers of the online music site, Folkwax, who also selected him as Artist of the Year.
Mallett’s music has taken him to venues such as The Bottom Line in New York, San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, the Newport Folk Festival and an annual fall tour of the United Kingdom.
